A California resident resides in the state for more than nine months during the tax-year. Although you may have connections with another state, if your stay in California is for other than a temporary or transitory purpose, you are a California resident. PART-YEAR RESIDENT:
You were a resident of one state for part of the tax year and moved to another state with the intention of making it your home. In general, you’ll need to file taxes for both states. NON-RESIDENT:
If you’re an employee who works in one state but lives in another, you are a non-resident. You might benefit from a reciprocity agreement between the two states.
